A Child And Technology An Opinion

A parenting group on social media was discussing the affects of today's modern technology upon our young children. 

I commented:

A very debatable subject. Careful adult responsibility is required to ensure settings are right, security is set, & supervision is offered. The choices parents & caregivers make of what the children can do on a tablet should be carefully considered beforehand & time limits should be set & adhered to. Imho tablets should not go in a childs bedroom & sleep space, but I also know there are special circumstances when a child having a tablet in the bedroom is beneficial overall to the both the child & the family (for example a child with Autism). The old saying goes 'u can have too much of a good thing', tablets are fun & have many interactive ways to aid a child's learning, development & creativity. However too much tablet time can interfere with a child's physical well-being & social development. So in an ideal world every child would get plenty of outdoor physical exercise & play, & also enjoy plenty of social interactions with friends & family, & also spend a certain amount of time playing on a tablet that can aid there cognitive developmental skills. Teachers are bringing new ways of learning with technology into the classrooms many of these are interactive & creative. 

I believe all the above elements are required in our modern technological world, else the child may find themselves later on at a disadvantage. 

I believe the new Oculus Quest 2 Virtual Headsets will revolutionise the way we learn in the future, they are already being used to teach empathy to some people by submerging them into real life situations, but in a virtual reality, that appears so real that they are able to experience & feel things they have never experienced & felt before.
