Cash Freedom Part Of Our Civil Liberty

Cash Freedom = Part of Our Freedom

A discussion ensued on social media when I stood up for the importance of keeping cash money in our society, many underestimate the power and liberty cash money allows us. Some may consider digital monetary formats easier and quicker, such as cards and smart phones.

However this is my point of view that I feel very strongly about.

Toni Cairns if by freedom you mean tax avoidance. Sure.

My reply:

S##### G##### by freedom what I mean is this... cash is protection from identity theft, digital fraud, being digitally tracked, scams and spams, the freedom to not have to be registered online with passwords, use loyalty card schemes, recieve unnecessary emails that have to be unsubscribed from. Cash removes many annoyances and daily stressors caused by other payment methods, that require the need for bank and building society accounts, photo ID processes to confirm identity, they require the necessity to keep safe debit and credit cards, they track every single transaction, and they are reliant upon the interconnectedness of the internet.

Smartphone payment schemes are similar with the need to subscribe for a plan, with mobile data and or the need for a connected network that works, this all involves more data tracking, whilst often being tied into costly contracts, all whilst trying to keep your phone safe and security protected, nightmare if you're phone, purse or wallet is damaged, lost or stolen. Cash does not rely upon the interconnectedness of the internet, the need for digital devices and chipped cards, if we move into a cashless society we begin to lose our privacy, and our freedom to be private, since everything technological is digitally tracked, after all data is the most valuable commodity!

Also tax avoidance is structuring your affairs so that you pay the least amount of tax due, how is gaining some kind of tax advantage a form of freedom when almost everything involves a form of paying tax? Tax evasion on the other hand is totally illegal and for anyone getting caught, it involves various forms of penalties, fines and or imprisonment, so even that does not involve a whole lot of freedom .
